Young Entrepreneurs Can Conquer The World!

Yesterday evening The Saltire Foundation held the first of their Global Entrepreneurship events, hosted in the University of Edinburgh's Business School and co-sponsored by the Edinburgh Entrepreneurial Club.

The event consisted of a panel discussion including Sandy Kennedy, Mick Jackson and Adam Purvis each of whom spent a bit of time talking about each of their own entrepreneurial backgrounds and how these previous experiences had shaped and influenced the businesses they now manage.

Discussions centred on how to create entrepreneurial role models for young business people who they can relate to, reach out to and consider to be credible influences in the business society. It was identified that perhaps until recently there had been a lack of motivation for young people to actively attempt to shape business policy and believe that they could aid future industry progression. Highlighting global opportunities that are available to young Scots will help the country, in the words of our panel, to rediscover its "mojo".

The panel were faced with some tough and very interesting questions during the question and answer session and spent time after the event talking with everyone who had attended.

There was a key message that came out of the discussions - now is the time for young entrepreneurs to act and in order to succeed it is often necessary to take risks, consider thinking outside the box and challenge the way that you have been programmed to think whether through habit, professionalism or education.

Thank you to everyone who came to the event, we had a good mix of people from industry, entrepreneurial societies, universities as well as Saltire Fellows, past Scholars and also potential future 2012 Alumini.

We look forward to seeing you all again at our next events!
