The Trump Organisation is providing two of Scotland's top business students with the opportunity to work on its global golf project this summer. Forming part of the Saltire Foundation's international development internship programme, the eight week placements, hosted in New York and Scotland, will provide a rare chance for Scottish students to work with international entrepreneur, Donald J. Trump, and the team at the forefront of developing "the world's greatest golf course".
Selected from among the top students in the country, Jane Manson from Invergordon, studies international business at the University of Strathclyde will be based at Trump Tower, New York, and Andrew Carey from St Andrews, studies joint honours law and economics at the University of Glasgow has joined the team at Menie Estate, Aberdeenshire. Sandy Kennedy, CEO of the Saltire Foundation, acknowledged Jane and Andrew's achievements in attaining this internship: Thanks to Trump International for offering two outstanding opportunities for our Saltire scholars. Jane and Andrew beat off formidable competition to secure these prestigious internships and I am sure they will build on this unique experience as a start to successful careers.
During their internship, the students will gain an insight into the daily development of the project through direct involvement with company executives, consultants, contactors and agencies, as well as members of the public. They will be given a range of tasks and duties covering all aspects of business in order to challenge and maximise their experience. Sarah Malone, EVP of Trump International - Scotland, stated: We're delighted to work with Saltire Foundation and provide work opportunities for the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. Our interns will gain experience of working at the sharp end of business with one of the most successful and powerful businessmen in the world. It's a once in a life-time opportunity.
Jane Manson commented that: It is an exciting opportunity to be part of a project that has such a magnitude of benefits for the future of Scotland. Working from New York is giving me an international perspective on the Scottish project and has highlighted the importance of the development for ensuring Scotland remains an integral player in global commerce.
Andrew Carey based at the Trump estate in Scotland said: I believe that the development of Trump International Golf Links Scotland is just the kind of scheme that Scotland needs in the current economic climate. This multi-million pound investment will create both temporary and permanent employment as well as a major tourist attraction. While this project offers a multitude of benefits to Scotland, it also represents a personal opportunity for me to experience business at a level never previously possible. An internship with Trump International is a great opportunity to gain an insight into one of the largest and most high profile projects in the country. I have been given the opportunity to work with an experienced team and deal with a whole host of situations. This will allow me to grow in confidence whilst developing new skills and gaining invaluable experience.
The Saltire Foundation believes student placements such as this provide their students with the knowledge and training required in today's difficult working world, and will prepare them for the challenges in their careers ahead.
NOTES TO EDITORS
The Saltire Foundation, a charitable organisation that aims to 'find, fuel and spark Scotland's human potential, in turn creating our next generation of business leaders.'
The Saltire Foundation has identified a lack of entrepreneurial spirit in Scotland. It is their belief that if this spirit can be stimulated, Scotland can grow into a dynamic and successful economy. Through internships in large multinationals, it aims to create graduates with the drive and ambition to turn national success stories into global success stories. These high calibre placements challenge Scotland's top students to develop their own skills while working on projects of real significance to their host companies.
