The Saltire Foundation has just announced 42 outstanding, fully-funded internships with many of the world's leading companies. These internships are targeted at Scotland's most talented students, many of whom would not normally have access to opportunities of this kind. The 42 paid placements are with companies such as The Trump Organization, Liberty Mutual, IBM, the Wood Group and Tesco in places such as the US, China, Germany and Hong Kong.
The Saltire Foundation Undergraduate Internship Programme differentiates itself from other internships because of the high quality of projects interns work on and the networking opportunities interns have through the GlobalScot Network. The Saltire Foundation covers all travel, accommodation, visa and insurance costs for students and provides a generous weekly stipend so that students who may not otherwise have these types of opportunities can participate. Students are chosen based on their ability and potential. We know first-hand that Scotland as a whole benefits from having students from all economic backgrounds participating in our programme.
Eilidh Dillion, who spent eight weeks interning for GlaxoSmithKlein in 2010, states: "The Saltire Foundation has provided me with a refined sense of direction, a number of contacts that are second-to-none and an enhanced level of understanding and ability that would not have been possible without this experience."
Chris Jones, a 2010 Scholar, adds: "There is simply no substitute for experience and I probably learned much more about innovation and entrepreneurship in business over the course of my two months at Lab49 than I would in many years of lectures and essays."
The Saltire Foundation aims to find the next generation of Scottish business leaders and develop their potential. In addition to the Undergraduate Internship Programme, the Saltire Foundation also runs a year-long Saltire Fellowship Programme that equips individuals with the skills and attitude required to take a leadership role within a Scottish business.
